Hi, saw you yesterday in Colgne supporting Tarja. It was the worst I saw in 37 years coming from a rockstage. It sounded like a jamsession necessary for the soundmix. But it was only noise, not music. 45 wasted minutes. Maybe you've recognized, that the hall was getting empty during your set. And you can read on Tarja's website that other people think like I do. So, please, don't do that again. I'm sure, you can do better...

You have a distortion crunch which makes people listen so carefully, and it is a remarkable experience to hear your powerful licks behind Vernon Reid's fantastic, psychedelic licks. That's what your bass is, Doug: psychedelic. I just saw LIVING COLOUR yesterday (Tuesday, August 28) at the Joe Suarez talk-show. You and Vernon were terrific, man, oh yeaaah!!!!! Come ooooooooon, now!!! I saw carefully your chords and fingerings, Doug Wimbish; I expected one more tune for you to play one of those fierce bass solos, but never mind...That's enough. In the previous touring to São Paulo, MEMORIES CAN'T WAIT, BACK IN BLACK, FLYING...your bass was so perfect.

I play a little hard, loose notes. Jack Bruce is the main bass man for me, OUT OF THE STORM is the most astounding music I ever heard, it is total personality. But...can someone match Doug, obviously not. Thank you very much for making the lives of million of people a little happier, A very good tour for you, Vernon, your incredible singer (hey he improvises exciting nmelodies, man)and the incredible drummer. Took forever to get to the good stuff. Doug provided early grooves with Bernis Worrell on a cover of Jeff Beck's "Freeway Jam", and Bernie anchored Cincinatti bassist Freekbass on his West coast debut. After a painfully long stretch of speed metal and garage bands, flamenco rock (from Mark Rizzo) and the painful crunch of death-metal from Megadeath bassist David Ellefson, TM Stevens and Leo Nocentelli joined for a rousing version of "Cissy Strut". Nocentelli was rightfully flaunting his guitar prowess and was acclaimed by Bernie, who joined them onstage on melodica, as the "truly legendary" leader of the Meters.

Late around midnite, Fishbone's Angelo Moore donned his Dr Mad Vibe guise for some insightful spoken poetry like "Shit" and "Rock Star". Then Doug got set up with guitarist John McCarthy for a nice jam with a guest horn section. Will & Doug then got their rigs set up with Head>>Fake and featured their "Terrorism" track. The duo was joined by Bernie Worrell and a revolving door of guitarists ensued.

First was LC-bandmate, Vernon Reid (he mentioned Corey was actually on the NAMM site the previous evening, but had to board "the JCS gravy train". Then Stevie Salas stepped in and jammed. Vernon returned for a dual guitar attack that mangled "Maggot Brain" almost beyond recognition. The funk was flying hard and heavy, when vocalist Bernard Fowler led us into Funkadelic's "Hit It and Quit it" and Skip MacDonald took over the guitar spot. Keith LeBlanc brought it up on drums for a few Tack>>head tunes and then into "Crosstown Traffic" with guest fills by an unknown trumpet player.

Doug came back thanking us for all hanging around. He hopes to host another Wimbash at the Winter's NAMM. I wonder what changes are necessary if it were opened to the public. Cameras were on site filming, so I'd expect Doug's performances were filmed for an eventual performance video from Rock House Method (who organized and set up the gig along with a host of co-sponsors).

Was at the Boerderij-gig in Zoetermeer, Holland last Sunday. Awesome! (sound in the room could have been a bit better) That King's X guy rocks! There was one song that keeps sticking in my mind. I didn't know it, don't think it was a Living Colour song. The lyric in the chorus is something like 'It's such a beautiful day', very cool bassline aswell.

Hi CamilleDoug is on tour but will hopefully respond to you once he reads the boards, but in the mean time, Doug owns several, and I do mean several basses. He currently endorses Spector basses, but he does have an interesting collection which includes Warwicks, Ibanez including his signature bass, the DWB3 & DWB35, Fenders etc. I think you should go to your favorite music store and try out some guitars. You have to decide what style of guitar playing you would like, for example, do you like classical guitar or folk? if so you will have to learn to pick or strum with your fingers, therefore you will have to build up calluses, hardening of the skin. If your interest is electric guitar then you can use your fingers also but it would be a better idea to use a pick on the metal strings. Just remember it hurts in the begining but it pays off in the end...the gift of music. Doug will tell you his favorite bass as soon as he is free. Good luck.

Hi StubbyThe Boss DD-20 Giga Delay will give you 23 sec, but if you are looking to sample there are a lot of pedels you can use. Boss RC-50 loop Station, Boss RC-20XL Loop Station. I use a Line 6 DL4 and also an old Jamman by Lexicon. There is also the new DigiTech Jamman on the market. If you decide to get into rack samplers that would give you space to work, but for guitar players we usually always need something we can step on to keep the hands on the axe. If you had a guitar with midi capabilities it would really open up your control of samples in a rack mount sampler or workstation. Google any of the info mentioned and I hope you find what you are looking for.

While struggling with the Reality of being a Human instead of a myth, the Strong Black Woman passed away.

Medical sources say she died of natural causes, but those who knew her know she died from being Silent when she should have been Screaming, Smiling when she should have been Raging, from being sick and not wanting anyone to know because Her Pain might inconvenience them.

She Died from an overdose of other people clinging to Her when she didn't even have Energy for Herself.

She Died from Loving Men who didn't Love themselves and could only offer her a crippled reflection.

She Died from raising Children Alone.

She Died from the Lies her Grandmother told her Mother and her Mother told her about Life, Men & Racism.

She Died from being sexually abused as a child and having to take that Truth everywhere she went every day of Her Life, exchanging the humiliation for guilt and back again.

She Died from asphyxiation, coughing up blood from Secrets she kept trying to burn away instead of allowing Herself the kind of nervous breakdown she was entitled to.

She Died from being Responsible, because She was the last rung on the ladder and there was no one under her She could dump on.

She Died from being a Mother at 15 and a Grandmother at 30 and an Ancestor at 45.

She Died from being dragged down and sat upon by un-evolved Women posing as Sisters and Friends.

She Died from tolerating Mr. Pitiful, JUST to have a Man around the house.

She Died from sacrificing Herself for Everybody and Everything when what She really wanted to do was be a Singer, a Dancer, or some Magnificent other.

She Died from Lies of omission because She didn't want to bring the Black Man down.

She Died from Tributes from her counterparts who should have been matching Her Efforts instead of showering her with dead words and empty songs.

She Died from Myths that would not allow Her to show Weakness without being chastised by the Lazy and Hazy.

She Died from hiding her Real Feelings until they became Hard and Bitter enough to invade Her womb and breasts like angry tumors.

She Died from always lifting something from heavy boxes to refrigerators All By Herself.

The Strong Black Woman Is Dead.

She Died from never being Enough of what Men Wanted, or being Too much for the Men She Wanted.

She Died from Being too Black and Died again for not Being Black enough.

She Died from being Misinformed about her Mind, her Body & the extent of her Royal capabilities.

She Died from knees pressed too close together because Respect was never part of the foreplay that was being shoved at Her.

She Died from Loneliness in Birthing rooms and Aloneness in Abortion centers.

She Died in bathrooms with Her veins busting open with Self-Hatred and Neglect.

And Sometimes when She Refused to die, when She just Refused to give in, She was Killed by the lethal images of blonde hair, blue eyes, being rejected by the OJ.'s, the Quincy's, the Cuba's, & the Kobe's.

Sometimes, She was stomped to Death by Racism & Sexism, Executed by Hi-Tech ignorance while She carried the Family in her belly, the Community on her head, and the Race on her back!

I have more respect than ever for you now considering the circumstances.
